I had the chance to interview Alexis Asplundh who is the creator of A2Swimwear.
At the end of the interview there will be a surprise for you 😉
What are the main inspirations of your new line of swimwear?
The inspiration for A2Swimwear was jumpstarted by my senior thesis collection in 2012. I used classic and functional silhouettes with the punch of extremely loud colors. The outcome was a bright, fun, stylish collection. I continue to do that with A2Swimwear , combining functional styles that can be worn while being active, with powerful colors as opposed to black, the traditional, and boring, wetsuit color.
The colours are so important in your collection. Why did you choose violet (I adore violet), like predominant?
The design shapes of your swimwears are so different from other brands. Is there a specific reason or is it for having more comfort?
A2Swimwear really focuses on function. We want these suits to stay on in the water, on the beach or any other activity you may be doing. For that reason, seams are strategically placed for comfort and the interesting styles keep things fresh and different.
Your brand is called A2Swimwear . Is it linked with the first letter of your name and surname?
Yes, A2Swimwear comes from my name, Alexis Asplundh.
Why did you choose neoprene, like material?
I think technical fabrics, specifically neoprene, are super cool and wanted to use neoprene in a way it hadn’t been used before. I started working with neoprene in 2011, before it was on the shelves. It can conform to the body or be used to create massive amounts of volume. It also has the ability to look super expensive and luxurious while, at the same time, being completely practical. Neoprene also provides a bit of warmth for the wearer which is an added benefit.
Do you ship all over the world?
Yes, we want anyone who loves A2Swimwear to be able to wear it!
Can we have some news about the new S/S 16 Collection?
A2Swimwear is going in a bit of a different direction from the bold colors of SS15. Our color palette is a bit softer, with more pastels in the mix and our prints are headed in a more ethereal direction as well. Jewels, lace and glitter are a few of our print motifs for SS16. We’re really excited to be branching out a bit and including wetsuits in the SS16 line. And of course we will continue with our signature interesting swimwear shapes.
Are you planning to create an underwear collection with neoprene?
Not as of right now. We are looking into doing some men’s surf vests though. Keep and eye out 😉
